Confronting the Collection (working title)
PhD candidate on the Advanced Practices Programme in the Visual Cultures department at Goldsmiths, University of London. This PhD takes as a case study an on-going piece of research and continued conversations with South African-based artist and designer Wanda Lephoto and co-founder of the African Fashion Research Institute, Dr Erica de Greef, which aims to reveal the complexities of exhibiting a dress collection which was worn, owned and donated by white South Africans and which resides in a museum in South Africa. Confronting the Collection (working title) is a proposal for an exhibition which decolonises and unpacks the problematic histories held within this collection. In June 2022 Alison received funding from the John Ellerman Foundation to develop research in Museum Africa. Exhibition forthcoming.
